Mother from Hell! How a Woman Allowed Her Boyfriend to Beat Her Own 1-year-old Son Senseless

Jennifer Mosko, a 28-year-old woman from Allentown, Pennsylvania, has been sentenced to prison.

According to The Morning Call, the young mother will spend the next two to seven years in a state prison for failing to protect her 1-year-old son from her boyfriend, who beat the baby so severely the child suffered four fractured ribs.

Jennifer Mosko wept and asked Judge Maria L. Dantos to send her to a work-release program or halfway house instead of prison.

"You've got to be kidding," Dantos told Mosko before handing down the sentence. "You are selfish. You have failed miserably in your responsibility to protect your child."

Mosko, of East Susquehanna Street, pleaded guilty in October to child endangerment. Her boyfriend, Israel Lopez-Carmona, 32, was sentenced in August to seven to 20 years behind bars.

The couple was arrested this year following an investigation that began in December when doctors examined the child and found fractured ribs, bite marks and bruises.

During an interview with detectives, Mosko admitted that she saw Lopez-Carmona bite her son on the face and thigh. She also said she watched Lopez-Carmona punch her son in the back so hard that the baby lost his breath.

Detectives found text messages between the pair in which Mosko asked Lopez-Carmona to discipline the child but urged him to "be gentle." Texts also showed that Mosko and Lopez-Carmona conspired to hide the boy's injuries by making him wear a hat that covered his cheeks.

In court Tuesday, Mosko's attorney, Albert Nelthropp, told the judge that his client has had a "chaotic" life marked by drug and alcohol abuse.

"People living that lifestyle forget what is right. You do what you can to survive," Nelthropp said.

Assistant District Attorney Sarah K. Heimbach argued for a lengthy sentence for Mosko, noting that Mosko was reluctant to admit that she knew her son was being abused, even as she stood before the judge to be sentenced.

"The injuries to this child were horrific. And she let it happen," Heimbach said.

In addition to prison time, Dantos ordered Mosko to complete five years of probation. The judge said Mosko's son, who is now in foster care, could be affected by the crime for years to come.

"He was battered," Dantos said. "He suffered. He is still suffering."
