Shock as Governor Appoints School Principal as Permanent Secretary

Many people have received the news of the appointment of a secondary school principal as a permanent secretary in Bayelsa state.

The announcement was made by the Governor, Seriake d!ckson. The principal, Mr. Egbe Gibson Ockiya, was among four permanent secretaries inaugurated by the Governor on Wednesday, a Government House statement said on Thursday.

Others appointed along with the principal include: Dr. Evelyn Adombazi Tawari, Dr. Zuoboemi Agadah and Mr. Ikobho Howells.

According to d!ckson, the appointment of the principal was done to fulfill his earlier promise. Ockiya becomes the first principal to be appointed in that position.

The governor said, “The appointment of the school principal (Ockiya) as a permanent secretary makes history today in Bayelsa State.

“This shows that as we have always said, teachers are very close to the heart of this government and always will be and secondly, when we make promises, we keep them.

He added: “In this government, we have created a number of records, even in the area of re-organizing the administration. In this government, we have appointed permanent secretaries from all aspects of the public service of the state and at the local government level.

“The message that should go out to all in the public service of our state is that, wherever you are, if you do your job well and be loyal to the administration and to the state, you can rise to any level within this state. I call for more dedication to duty.”

d!ckson urged the appointees to live up to expectations and exhibit the highest level of professionalism as they perform their different duties.
