Enyeama could win African Footballer of the Year, says Dosu Joseph

Former Nigeria international goalkeeper Dosu Joseph believes Lille safe hands Vincent Enyeamahave what it takes to be crowned as 2014 Africa footballer of the year.

The Super Eagles first choice goalkeeper made the 25-man list for the best player on the continent alongside compatriot Ahmed Musa and reigning king, Yaya Toure of Cote d’Ivoire.

According to the him, Enyeama’s consistency could fetch him the award benot minding the fact that goalkeeper hardly get such recognition.
“Enyeama [Vincent] no doubt is one of the best in Africa. He has been impressive form for his club in the French league, Champions League and the Europa league. He has also done well for the national team,” Dosu told WL.

“He stands a very good chance of been named in the top three but can’t really say if he will eventually win because it has always been very difficult to be named the best in Africa, though, few goalkeepers have won it before but that was in the past.

“This time, I think it will be more difficult but should he win it, Nigerians will be very happy and that will boost his profile.
“For Ahmed Musa, he has done well for his club and the national team. It is good that he is being nominated but I think Enyeama stands a better chance.

On the exclusion of the Obafemi Martins and Ikechukwu Uche, the Atlanta ’96 football gold medalist insists the duo’s exclusion was justified due to their little or no contribution to the Super Eagles in the year under review.

“Taking a look at their [Uche & Martins] national team participation, you will believe with me that it has been long they both played for Nigeria which I think is one of the criteria by Caf,” he continued.
“Both have done pretty well for their respective teams but, it’s not all about club glory alone but the senior national team.
“That does not mean they are bad players only that it’s just unfortunate every one cannot be on the list at the same time.

“For Enyeama and Musa, let’s give them our supports and hope either becomes the next Africa footballer of the year,” he concluded.
