It was reported that the individuals were shot during an altercation in which they stood their grounds to prevent rigging in the just concluded rerun elections.

The Army has however denied shooting anyone.

He denied the alleged killing and mass arrest by soldiers in Tai, Ogoni, Gokhna-Ogoni Local Government Areas of Rivers State, saying that it was not true, while also adding that the allegations made by some politicians regarding deep involvement of soldiers during the elections were aimed at tarnishing the positive image of the army.
