Don't ban Ronaldo for three games, pleads Edimar

The Cordoba defender has called for the FIFA Ballon d'Or winner to avoid a three match ban after the Madrid forward was dismissed for attempting a petulant kick at the full back
Cordobadefender Edimarhas called on the Spanish football association (LFP) to avoid handing Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldoany further sanction following his red card.

The three-time Ballon d’Or winner was dismissed with eight minutes remaining of Saturday’s clash in Andalusia after aiming a kick at Edimar.

The referee’s report did not describe the incident as “violent conduct”, meaning Ronaldo will likely receive just a one-match ban, and Edimar has urged the authorities not to dish out any further punishment.

"I forgive Cristiano Ronaldo. I hold no grudge," Edimar toldAS.

"It was not an attempt at aggression. He hit my legs and my mouth, nothing more. What I mean is that those responsible understand that things happen on a football pitch.

"He should receive a normal suspension, nothing more. I don’t want to hurt him and I hope that he remains the best player in the world."

Ronaldo apologised for the incident via social mediashortly after the match.

The Portugal international will now miss his side’s clash with David Moyes' Real Sociedad; a further two-game ban would see him miss the clash with Sevilla and the Madrid derby against city rivals and title holders Atletico.

A late Gareth Bale penalty secured a 2-1 victory for Liga leaders Madrid, leaving them a point clear of second-placed Barcelona.

It was Ronaldo’s fourth red card in La Liga since his 2009 switch to the 10-time European champions.
