35-year-old Zambian Arrested For Insulting The President On Facebook

Edward Makayi, a 35-year-old Zambian who is studying engineering at a privately-owned university has been arrested for allegedly insulting President Edgar Lungu and some of his government officials on Facebook.


According to Zambian police spokesperson Esther Mwata Katongo, Makayi is accused of creating a Facebook account under fake names and defaming the president.

She added that he is also accused of defaming some government ministers, members of the governing party, the President’s press aide and the head of the Zambian police. The defendant is in custody. He is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday, July 27, 2017.
