Obafemi Martins Voted MLS Player of the Month for September

Prolific striker, Obafemi Martins, who plays for Seattle Sounders FC, might continue to be overlooked for a Super Eagles by Coach Stephen Keshi but that has not stopped the former Inter Milan and Newcastle United striker’s exploits.

Martins, who has been in fine form for his American team which is campaigning in the MLS, has been voted the Etihad Airways Player of the month in Major League Soccer (MLS).

The recognition came following Martins’ manner of setting a new Seattle Sounders record of scoring 15 goals so far this season with 4 games left to extend the new record.

Fondly called Obagoal by fans, he has also notched up 10 assists so far, bringing him to 25 combined points on the season, after scoring a record setting goal against Chivas USA last week. The former Newcastle United player beat LA Galaxy forward, Landon Donovan, Portland Timbers play-maker Diego Valeri, Columbus Crew goalkeeper Steve Clark and Lee Nguyen of New England Revolution by polling 58.43% of total votes by fans.
