Messi wins but CR7 flops - YB rankings

The Argentine's XI, which also featured Luis Suarez and Gonzalo Higuain, came out on top at the end of our 16-team tournament of players born every year between 1981 and 1996Lionel Messi's all-star Class of 1987 have been crowned champions of Goal's Yearbook Battle.

The Argentine teamed up with Luis Suarez to see off fellow Barcelona forward Neymar in a surprisingly one-sided final, with Messi & Co. claiming a whopping 79 per cent of the votes cast by our readers.

It wasn't as if the Selecao skipper's side lacked quality either, with Alvaro Morata, Marco Verratti and David Alaba having featured among the Brazilian's stellar supporting cast.

However, they proved no match for Messi & Suarez, who had Gonzalo Higuain, Dimitri Payet, Arturo Vidal and Leonardo Bonucci for company in a world-class XI. Indeed, the Class of 1987 garnered 9,130 of the 11,557 votes cast.

Here, then, are the worthy winners of Goal's Yearbook Battle. It's a line-up that would be a match for any side in the world, we think you'll agree!

Finally, Goal would like to express its gratitude to all of you who participated, with the tournament having generated over 150,000 votes over the past four days!
Thank you!
