American rapper LL Cool J wrote and recorded the famous I Need Love for his 1987 second studio album Bigger and Deffer.

The pop rap song was released as the second (2nd) single from the album on July 13, 1987.

I Need Love peaked at number one (1) on the US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs while reaching number fourteen (14) on the US Billboard Hot 100.

The song also achieved the rare feat of reaching number eight (8) on the UK Singles Chart as a rap song.

In 1987 as well, the song won a Soul Train Music Award for Best Rap Single. It has appeared on various lists as one of the greatest hip hop/rap songs of all-time.
