Rumor from the supply chain says the Samsung Galaxy S8 will feature 2K screen, no home button

Following the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 fiasco, all eyes will be on the Samsung Galaxy S8 to see if the company was able to iron out the problems with explosions that plagued the Galaxy Note 7. Not wanting to take any chances, the latest rumor from the supply chain (via weibo) is that Samsung will outfit the Samsung Galaxy S8 with a 2K resolution screen when it is unveiled on February 26th.

This rumor contradicts earlier reports that called for Sammy to turn to a 2160 x 3840 UHD resolution screen to make VR look great on the phone. As we pointed out before, using a screen with such a high resolution would put a terrific strain on the battery, and could force Samsung to sharply hike the battery capacity on the handset. In light of the Galaxy Note 7 issue, which could have been battery related, it seems wise for the company to stick to a 1440 x 2560 resolution screen if just for one more year.

The supply chain also reports that no component vendors received orders for parts that would be used for a home button. This would seem to indicate that the phone could have an all-glass front with Qualcomm's ultrasonic fingerprint scanner embedded under the front glass. It sounds similar to the all-screen look on what is allegedly Meizu's new phone. Meizu's device allegedly carries a very high (close to 100%?) screen-to-body ratio. It also happens to be a look that Apple is reportedly going to employ for its tenth anniversary Apple iPhone in 2017.

As usual with a rumor like this, we suggest that you take it with a grain of salt.
