Rio 2016 Olympics: Why Ajagba did not win a medal in boxing – Coach

Coach of Nigeria’s sole boxer, Efe Ajagba, at the just concluded Olympic Games in Rio, Tony Konyegwachie, has revealed that the boxer failed to win any medal because he did not heed to advice.

Ajagba was eliminated in the quarter-final by Kazakhstan’s Ivan Dychko, who won the bout by unanimous decision in the Super Heavyweight 91kg category.

Konyegwachie told Brila FM on Tuesday: “I told Efe before the bout not to fight his opponent; that he should try his best to box not fight.

“This is because I know the opponent was more experienced than him, but he refused to listen to me; he told me he was going to fight and knock him down.”

Ajagba needed victory in the quarter-final, to qualify for the medals stage.
