Arsenal Star, Mesut Ozil, Settles Legal Row with Father After Being Sued for £500,000 Over Management Row

Mesut Ozil’s father, Mustafa, had claimed he was owed £494k for a loss of earnings, with Arsenal midfielder then responding with a demand for return of £800k loan

Mesut Ozil, Arsenal’s record signing, has reached an out-of-court settlement after becoming embroiled in a legal dispute with his father.

Mustafa Ozil had claimed that he was owed €630,000 (£494,000) for an outstanding percentage of earnings after losing his job last year at his son’s marketing company, with Mesut then reportedly responding with a demand for the return of an £800,000 loan.

The case was eventually resolved outside of court last month with the Dusseldorf state court confirming the settlement this week. Ozil’s brother Mutlu is now the chief executive officer of “Özil Marketing GmbH”.

“It’s nothing new to us that there are problems between Mesut and his father but Mesut always puts private issues to the side,” Germany’s general manager Oliver Bierhoff was quoted as telling German newspaper Express.

According to another source, Ozil’s relationship with his father has been “destroyed” for the past year.

Ozil’s father has been credited with playing a major part in his son’s career and, when he arrived at Arsenal from Real Madrid for £42.5 million last year, they were still very close. Ozil is currently out injured after suffering knee ligament damage when he made a pass with the outside of his foot against Chelsea last month.
