Senate Seeks Removal Of Age Bracket For Unemployed Graduates

The Senate on Tuesday, began moves to remove age bracket specification for recruitment and employment of job seekers in the country.

According to Senator Matthew Urhogide the sponsor of the motion, it's not the fault of job applicants that they were not employed earlier and should not suffer for it. He added that age requirements has lots of negative effect on eligible applicants.

Senator Stella Oduah supported the motion stating that age requirement is a barrier and should be scrapped.

Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu stated that there should be need for transparency and fairness in filling the few available job opportunities.

The Senate therefore mandated MDAs to de-emphasize age bracket requirements for recruitment of first-time applicants while urging MDAs to adhere strictly to the Federal Character Principle as it relates to recruitment. exercises.
