Commotion as 47-year-old Man Beats Up His Own Step-Mother in Lagos

A forty-seven-year-old man who allegedly had the nerve to beat up his own step-mother in a Lagos State community, has been dragged before the law.

Yusuf Oloyede, a 47-year-old driver, who allegedly assaulted his step-mother, was on Thursday brought before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

Vanguard reports that the accused was arraigned before Magistrate O.I. Raji on charges of breach of peace and assault. Oloyede, who lives at Oke-Odo area of Agege, Lagos, however, pleaded not guilty and was admitted to a bail of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Raji said the sureties should be gainfully employed with an evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

According to the prosecutor, Sgt. Yomi Egunjobi, the accused committed the offences on Aug. 27 at his residence.

He said the accused conducted himself in a manner likely to cause a breach of the peace by assaulting his step-mother, Mrs Modinat Oloyede.

“The accused assaulted his late father’s sixth wife by beating her up,” he said. Egunjobi told the court that the accused and the complainant had been having disagreement since the demise of their father and husband.

“The two parties have been fighting and the accused always threaten to kill the complainant, forcing her to vacate the house.

“On that fateful day, the complainant came to pack her belongings from the house, but the accused denied her entry.

“Instead, he descended on her and assaulted her,” he said.

The offences contravened Sections 166 and 172 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the accused may be jailed minimum of one year if found guilty of assault, according to the provisions of Section 172.

The case was adjourned until Oct.12 for mention.
