Over 100 Patients Escape Kenya’s Mental Hospital As Doctors Begin Strike (Photos)

More than 100 mental patients in Kenya’s Mathari Hospital in the country’s capital have escaped following the doctors and nurses’ strike, local media report. Photos and videos being circulated on social media in the country show some of the patients are seen jumping across the hospital’s perimeter wall.

In the video, members of the public are heard laughing with some advising the patients to remove their uniforms to avoid being identified by the authorities. Patients are also advised to walk away calmly to avoid detection.

The Standard newspaper in Kenya reported that at least 100 patients had escaped and that the authorities were trying to track them down amd bring them them back to the hospital.

The escape coincides with a nationwide doctor’s strike.
