Mortal Kombat 2 Star Teases Scorpion’s Return in the Live-Action Sequel

During a recent interview with Screen Rant, Shogun star Hiroyuki Sanada opened up about his return as Scorpion in New Line Cinema’s highly-anticipated Mortal Kombat 2. At the moment, the sequel currently has no release date yet, even though the film already wrapped up its production earlier this year.

Sanada revealed that he enjoyed filming Mortal Kombat 2, teasing the Scorpion will have an expanded role in the sequel compared to his brief appearance in the first installment. However, he advised fans not to expect a full-length Scorpion appearance.

“Yeah, exactly, he was a bookend. 10 minutes and 10 minutes. [Laughs] It all depends on the editing, but yeah, I was there,” Sanada shared. “It was a great reunion on set, most of the cast from the first movie, maybe four or five big new characters in it. The same director, and the same costume designer, it was fun. In the Australia Gold Coast, right after the strike, we started shooting, and we’re all done now.”

Who’s the cast of Mortal Kombat 2?

Mortal Kombat 2 will feature the return of Lewis Tan as Cole Young, Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade, Josh Lawson as Kano, Tadanobu Asano as Lord Raiden, Mehcad Brooks as Jax, Ludi Lin as Liu Kang, Chin Han as Shang Tsung, Joe Taslim as Bi-Han and Sub-Zero, Hiroyuki Sanada as Hanzo Hasashi and Scorpion, and Max Huang as Kung Lao. Joining them are a number of new characters in the form of Karl Urban as Johnny Cage, Adeline Rudolph as Kitana, Tati Gabrielle as Jade, Martyn Ford as emperor Shao Kahn, Damon Herriman as Netherrealm demon Quan Chi, Desmond Chiam as Edenian King Jerrod, and Ana Thu Nguyen as Queen Sindel.

The sequel is directed by Simon McQuoid from a screenplay written by Moon Knight head writer Jeremy Slater. Further details about the next installment’s plot are still being kept under wraps. It is produced by James Wan, Michael Clear, Todd Garner, and E. Bennet Walsh.
